Date :
05 June 2012
Time of the event : 6pm -10pm
Event type :
Conferences
Speaker/Lecturer : E-180, FindMeAPro, Huwhere, Mollejuo
Description of the activity : The Montreal NewTech Demo is a FREE monthly event where four startups present their latest product for 5 minutes followed by 5 minutes Q&A + networking.
We're going to try something different this month. Besides the 4 presentations, we're going to have a couple of tables in the back for any startup who want to have their laptop to show what they're working on to some people. This is a good opportunity to get some feedback if you're not ready to launch yet.
Choose the "Demo Table" ticket when you sign up. First come, first serve.
The Lineup!
E-180 is a matchmaking site that connects you with like-minded folks interested in sharing knowledge over a coffee.

Description of the activity : In exactly 2 weeks, a group of entrepreneurs and programmers will gather at OpenIt4Africa, an event aimed to help launch new innovative projects for Africa.
In the past 10 years, there’s been significant growth in many parts of Africa, with the continent experiencing the highest economic growth in the world, even beyond China and other Asian countries. The growth has been supported by the exploitation of natural resources, although it’s mainly fuelled by the ingenuity of entrepreneurs and organizations who see immense needs and opportunities. Ghana, Kenya, Angola, South Africa and Senegal are such countries where new and innovative solutions have been built, with good examples of projects that are unique, such as Ushahidi, or mpesa. It’s estimated for instance that a quarter of financial transactions in Kenya are done through mobile, numbers that are hard to imagine in Canada. Behaviours regarding mobile gaming, mobile communication, and mobile banking are also inherently different.
To help see those new opportunities, and at the same time gather talent and make teams work on new projects, OpenIt4Africa will be launching a conference on Friday afternoon, on June 15th, and then a hackathon in the following days. Technical experts, but also experienced mentors from various fields will also be there to help teams. As in most hackathons, all teams will be invited to present at the end of the weekend to present their solution to a jury.
The organizing team has already announced there will be teams from Nairobi (Kenya), Accra (Ghana), Dakar (Senegal) which will be participating globally in the event, making it an international event, with programmers getting connected through livestreaming. There will be also speakers participating through video-conference. As of right now, the team is also looking for participating teams in France, UK, and other countries such as in North African countries, South Africa, and also in countries such as Nigeria.
